How do I care for my vinyl flooring?

Vinyl flooring has been popular in kitchens and bathrooms for many years. Vinyl is an inexpensive floor covering that looks great and has a cushioned core, which makes floors more comfortable to walk on and warmer than tile or wood. Below are a few simple guidelines, to ensure you get the most out of your vinyl flooring:

  • To avoid the vinyl becoming scratched or dull, vacuum or sweep frequently.
  • To avoid dirt and chemicals becoming trapped in your vinyl flooring, place mats to the entrances of the room. Even though you can't see them, chemicals from asphalt can stick first to your shoes and then to the floor, causing it to yellow.
  • Don't drench your vinyl. Water from an overly wet mop will work its way into the cracks, seams, and edges. Once there, it can destroy the glue bond that holds down the vinyl, causing it to come loose or the corners to curl.
  • If your no-wax vinyl floor loses its shine, restore it with a polish or sealant made for no-wax flooring. Make sure the floor is thoroughly clean and apply one or two thin layers as directed. It should keep your floor shining for at least a year with only routine damp mopping.
  • To prevent scratching or denting, avoid wearing high heels in your home and fit your furniture feet with protective pads.
  • When moving furniture in or out of the room, lay a piece of plywood sheeting along the route and push or 'walk' the appliances out along the plywood path.
  • To avoid the discolouration of your vinyl flooring from strong light, use nets, blinds or shade large sun-facing windows during peak sunlight hours.
  • Some kitchen appliances send direct heat to your floor, which may eventually scorch, discolour, burn or fade your vinyl flooring. Hot objects such as matches, cigarettes, pots and oil may also damage your floor. To prevent damage, place non rubber-backed mats at key areas, such as your oven.

How do I clean my vinyl flooring?

  • Mop your vinyl floor with a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and hot water. Avoid using harsh cleaners, which can damage the surface of the vinyl, or detergents that leave a sticky residue behind. If you want to use something other than a homemade mixture, buy specifically formulated products or consult with an expert.
  • To remove scuff marks or scrapes, use a damp white cloth with a small amount of lighter fluid or paint thinner. Then wash the area with clean, hot water.
  • To clean dirt that the broom or vacuum can't get, use a mop dampened with warm (not hot) water. If that does not work, use soap, but make sure the soap is designed for your vinyl flooring. Most vinyl cleaners are concentrated, so mix a batch using the proper dilution ratio and keep it handy in a spray bottle. Your pre-mixed bottle of cleaner can then be used to quickly and conveniently wipe up any spills.
  • To remove the build-up of hairspray on your vinyl floor, use a small amount of shampoo with a gallon of warm water. Mop, then rinse with a damp mop.

What happens after I place an order?

After you place an order, it can take 10-14 days (providing the product is in stock) until the fitter calls, to book a fitting.

Do you offer a room clearance service?

We offer a room clearance service at a cost.

What is the returns and refund policy?

If there is a fault with the product, an inspection will take place and either a refund or replacement will be offered. If there is no fault with the carpet but you would still like it to be changed, there are two potential possibilities. 1. If the carpet has been cut the supplier, there will be a fee, obtainable from the supplier. If the carpet has been cut by the fitter, it cannot be cancelled in this instance.

How long do I have to return an item?

If the item has been ordered and cut from the roll, there is a cancellation fee that you must pay. However, the customer will have to pay for this - how ever if it is faulty we would get it inspected and take from there.

How long will it take between picking my floor or carpet and having it fitted?

Approximately three weeks; 10-14 days for the product to be delivered by the supplier and seven days for the carpet to be fitted.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver and fit carpet to all homes in the UK and Northern Ireland. However The Carpet Showroom does not deliver to the following areas of the UK and Ireland: Jersey (JE), Guernsey (GY), Isle of Man (IM), Isle of Wight (PO), Republic of Ireland and certain areas of the Scottish Highlands.
